Relational Database Systems can make life difficult, especially when working with multiple databases. Squirrel is an open-source SQL Client that will help you solve database problems with its graphical interface using JAVA. You can use Squirrel to access any JDBC-compliant database and view its meta-data, edit data and work with multiple databases on a remote machine or a local.

Squirrel allows the user to use SQL operations or edit data by clicking a table. You can view the data in read-only for security or you can use an edit mode and change the data by simply typing it into the table. You don't have to learn multiple management tools since Squirrel can access them all. Even when the database engine has unusual quirks, Squirrel's architecture lets users include components to handle them. The plug-in architecture also allows add-ons to be created and used.

Squirrel makes complicated tasks as easy as possible. When you open a database, a Session window pops up that displays the meta-data in a tree view. By clicking on a table name, you can display it in the form of text, an editable table or read-only. You can import or export data and Squirrel supports all of the standard data types and it's customizable. When there is more than one way of accomplishing a task, Squirrel will give you the options and let you choose.

There are many plug-ins for Squirrel, making it versatile, easy to use and very uncomplicated. It even allows repeated complex jobs such as periodic cleanups to be automated.
