Warcraft is one of the most popular real-time strategy (RTS) games of all times. Already from the original version (Warcraft: Orcs and Humans) the game was different and more exciting than other RTS games.
The game evolved further with Warcraft II - and then Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos which is often referred to among players as RoC. Each version making the gameplay ever more captivating.
RoC has been awarded the title "Game of the Year" from half a dozen gaming publications. Players can challenge each other over the internet or play solo against the computer. It is a real time game of strategy with are many new developments in the story line. Besides Orcs and Humans, RoC has added Night Elves and Undead as new races, each of whom has their own unique technologies and abilities. Also new are Heroes that the player can use to gain experience points, new attributes and new spell options.
When first played the rivers, mountains, cliffs and oceans of the playing map is covered by a "black mask" that gradually recedes as the game is played. The player builds settlements in order to gain resources, training their units to attack as well as explore the surrounding terrain. Resources of gold and lumber must be attained in order to build and the amount of food you have controls the number of units you can control at any given time. RoC is the first Warcraft game with a cycle of night and day.
RoC comes with an editor that allows players to create their own maps and scenarios. Players can share their maps and access others' maps through Battle.net.
Later World of Warcraft was launched as a very popular series because the creators have encompassed a complete, multiplayer universe that players can access on the internet. This universe is so complete that a player feels as if they are truly in a separate, exciting world of action and adventure.
